Description
The arch, walls, and towers to the west of Ravensworth Castle were built between 1808 and 1840, possibly designed by Nash for Sir Thomas Liddell. They are constructed from coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings. The structure features a chamfered Tudor arch with a blank shield above it, flanked by high walls that end in two-storey round turrets. The first floor of the turrets has lancet windows above a sill band, while the east side includes Tudor-arched doorways. The turrets and walls have corbelled parapets, and the archway is topped with battlemented parapets, all of which are roll-moulded.
