Description
Cox Close House is a house dating from the late 17th or early 18th century. The front is rendered, while the rear is constructed of limestone and brick, with brick gables. The pantiled roof has two rows of stone slates at the front. The house is two storeys with an attic, and has three windows. A central half-glazed four-panelled door is set within a 20th-century porch. The windows are three-light horizontal sliding sash windows in plain reveals. There are three dormers, each with a three-light sliding sash beneath a cornice and moulded, curved gable, topped with ball and spike finials. The shaped gables have a coping of one row of headers. Two rendered brick chimneys flank the structure. Inside, the closed-string staircase features flat balusters and a narrow grip handrail. Two-panelled doors are found throughout, some of which have been renewed; the originals have a narrow beaded central section. The main bedroom contains a high, corniced chimney-piece with a raised central section above a lugged bolection-moulded surround, incorporating a late 18th-century cast-iron grate. Two other chimney-pieces of similar quality are also present. Most windows have shutters with fielded panels. Moulded plastered beams are visible in the principal room.
