Description

Yarm Bridge over the River Tees is a Grade II* listed structure located on the boundary between the Parishes of Egglescliffe and Yarm. It was built around 1400 for Bishop Skirlaw of Durham and has since been widened. The bridge slopes down from north to south and features five arches, with the outer arches being shallower. It is constructed of ashlar stone and includes half octagonal buttresses and small pointed cutwaters between the arches. The voussoirs are edged with roll mouldings, and there is a plain parapet with near-flat coping above a band at road level. Rusticated end piers separate the main bridge from the abutments.
