Description
This greenhouse, located 70 metres west of Manesty (Number 40), was built around 1907 for Major H.R. French. It features a combination of brick, cast-iron, wrought-iron, timber, and glass, and is designed in an L-plan. The exterior is a single storey with seven bays. A brick plinth, approximately 0.5 metres high, supports the timber-framed structure. The fourth bay includes a gabled porch with half-glazed doors that have radiating glazing bars in the gable. There is also a half-glazed door in the sixth bay beneath a slightly raised roof section. Full-length ventilators run below the ridge, and the side glazing is top-hinged. Inside, the greenhouse has quatrefoil cast-iron supports for the staging, except in the bay with brick retaining walls for the side beds. A ratchet mechanism controls the ventilator system for the ridge.
