Description

The building comprises a school, dating to circa 1850, with a left extension added circa 1877 and later 19th-century rear extensions. The walls are largely rebuilt and the windows were replaced in the late 20th century, but the original roof remains. It is now a private dwelling. The front features a chamfered brick and stone plinth, rendered brick with applied false timber studding, a brick stack, and Welsh slate roofs. The main block is single-storey and three bays, with a late 20th-century door on the left and late 20th-century casement windows. A stack is located at the right end. A slightly projecting gabled extension, one storey and attic, with one bay and late 20th-century casement windows adjoins the right side. A three-bay left return and hipped and gabled single-storey rear extensions are also present. The building was formerly known as Kirkleatham County Primary School. It was originally built as an estate school using endowment income from the suspended Sir William Turner Free School charity and is included on the list for its historic interest.
