Description
62 and 64 High Street is a building that originally served as a house and later as shops, and is now two houses. It dates from the early 18th century, with an early 20th-century shop addition. The exterior is made of coursed squared sandstone, topped with a pantile roof and a brick chimney.
The building has two storeys and features a two-window range. On the left side, there is a shop with a step up to a central renewed six-panel door that has a blocked overlight. This door is set under an entablature that projects over a square bay shop window to the left, which includes a plain stall riser, a plate glass window, and three transom lights. To the right of the centre, there are three stone steps leading up to a 20th-century six-panel door, accompanied by a 20th-century bow oriel window that has glazing bars and a cornice. The small first-floor windows have two lights, with the right window featuring glazing bars. The roof has swept eaves, and the stone coping on the right gable survives in the lowest part where it projects from the adjacent house. A tall renewed brick chimney is located at the left end. The interior has not been inspected.
