Description

The Ramsay headstone, dated 1753, is located 12 metres southeast of the southwest corner of the nave of the Church of St. John in Acomb. It is made of sandstone and features a shaped segmental top with a sunk panel that encloses an open book with text. This is flanked by crossed bones over a scythe and a self-swallowing serpent. The inscription commemorates William Ramsay of Acomb High House.
