Description
This is a Methodist chapel, dated 1837 as shown on the porch. It is located in Hedley, on the Hill. The front is built of roughly squared stone with tooled and margined quoins and tooled dressings, while the other elevations are of rubble. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, with a red tile ridge. The building has a simple rectangular plan, with an integral schoolroom at the east end.
The front of the chapel is one storey and has four bays. A projecting porch is located in the second bay, with a boarded door, ornamental ironwork, and a plain fanlight within a pointed arch. Above the door is a stone inscription reading "WESLEYAN METHODIST CHAPEL" with the date 1837. The porch has a coped gable with an arched finial. To the left of the right bay is a boarded schoolroom door with ornamental ironwork, set within an alternating-block surround. The front has three windows, with renewed glazing, each set under a pointed arch in a raised stone surround. All openings, except for the schoolroom door, are within raised stone surrounds. The chapel has coped gables with arched finials. The rear elevation features four windows with brick pointed arches. The chapel was disused at the time of survey, and the windows were boarded up.
