Description

The Robson headstone, dating from 1785, is located 8 metres south-west of the porch of the Church of St. Mary in Whalton Village. It is made of sandstone and features a scrolly shaped top with beaded edge moulding. The headstone is adorned with a carving of cherubs holding an open book above the cherub's head and wings, with a self-swallowing serpent on the left and an hourglass on the right, while a dove hovers above. Below the carving, there is an inscription that reads: "The burial place of RA. ROBSON late of Huntlaw ...."
