Description
Two terrace houses, numbers 21 and 22, were built around 1870 as part of a development for the Ashington Coal Company. The houses were constructed as part of a larger housing scheme, with approximately 300 properties built between about 1855 and 1878. They are built of brick in English Garden Wall Bond, with painted stone sills and lintels and a Welsh slate roof. The houses are two storeys and each has three bays. The front elevation features centrally placed, renewed doors with overlights, flanked by four-pane sash windows. Banded ridge stacks are situated between the houses. Attached to the rear are backyard walls with boarded hatches and yard doors, along with outbuildings. These represent some of the least altered of the original miners' rows in Ashington.
