Description
This listing describes a group of four headstones located 18 meters south of the southeast corner of the parish church nave in Knarsdale, dating from the mid-18th century. The headstones commemorate William Lee of Bogue (1746), Joseph Lee of Softley (1745), Hannah Lee of Softly (1747), and John Lee of Softly (1753). Each headstone features classical frames with pilasters and segmental arches, as well as cherubs' heads. The reverse faces of some headstones include additional carvings, such as death's heads and an inscription on the third stone that reads: "Depart dear friend Dry up your tears Here Must we lie till Christ Appears."
