Description
The engine house at Scremerston Old Mine is a 19th-century colliery winding-engine house built in 1840 for the Commissioners of Greenwich Hospital. It is constructed of dressed stone and currently has no roof.
The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays. To the left, there is a boarded door set in an alternating-block surround, which features a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. Most of the windows have lost their joinery.
On the south side, there is a projecting chimney base that has no openings, except for two low, round, blocked brick arches at ground level.
