Description
The stable block, located approximately 20 yards south of Woodhouse, was built in 1836 for Sir Charles Monck. It features ashlar stone with tooled-and-margined dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The building is designed in an L shape and has two storeys. The corners are accentuated with angle pilasters that have roll-moulded corners.
The longer range on the left side consists of five bays. There is a boarded and battened door leading to the groom's room on the left, boarded double doors to the carriage house in the second and third bays, and a stable to the right. Above, there are five windows serving the granary. The projecting short wing to the right has a boarded door and a double door with a small-paned Yorkshire sash window above it. The roof is gabled with stone eaves, and the gable ends are pedimented. A small square stack is located at the left end.
