Description
This is a pumphouse, likely built in the third quarter of the 19th century for Lord Armstrong. It is constructed from roughly squared stone and has a Welsh slate roof. The building is small and rectangular, measuring approximately 3 by 6 metres. There are six steps leading down to a boarded door on the south side.
Inside, there is a 4-metre diameter all-metal waterwheel that remains in place. This wheel was used to operate a pump, although part of the mechanism has been removed. The pump raised water to Worton Farm, which is located about 0.5 kilometres to the south-west in Snitter parish.
