Description
Blackett Bridge over the River West Allen is a stone bridge dated 1857. It features an inclined design with three elliptical arches that increase in height towards the west. The bridge has rock-faced abutments and piers, which are complemented by triangular cutwaters. Below the parapets, there is a band that ends in low square piers. The parapet coping and dressings are also rock-faced and margined. On the internal face of the north parapet, there is a panel with an inscription in a moulded surround that reads: "BLACKETT BRIDGE BUILT BY SUBSCRIPTION THE FOUNDATION STONE WAS LAID BY EDWARD BLACKETT ORD APRIL XV.MDCCCLVII."
