Description
High House Methodist Chapel, built in 1859, is a Methodist chapel constructed of rubble with toothed and margined dressings and a slate roof. The building has one tall storey and three bays, with a basement on the right return and rear. It features an off-centre porch with a boarded door, which is topped by a coped gable with moulded kneelers. To the right, there are nine-pane sash windows with arched heads on the upper panes. The right return includes a boarded door with alternating jambs and a 16-pane sash window, with a round-headed window above that has radial glazing and 19th-century coloured glass. The left return has two round-headed 15-pane sash windows, also with 19th-century coloured glass in the heads. Above and between these windows is a semicircular stone panel inscribed 'WESLEYAN CHAPEL' along with the date. The area railings, which have been enlarged, feature lotus finials and are set on a low rubble wall with flat coping, extending from a plain pier on the left to a taller wall on the right, which connects back to the right end of the return. The interior is currently being remodelled.
