Description
A group of four headstones from the 18th and 19th centuries is located adjacent to the east end of the Church of St. John. They are made of sandstone and are arranged from north to south. The first headstone commemorates Anthony Lightly of Plaintrees House, dated 1763, featuring a shaped top with a relief cherub. The second headstone is for Edward Lightly of Plaintrees, dated 1791, also with a shaped top and a decorative border, along with a cherub above a recumbent hourglass flanked by books and a self-swallowing serpent over a scythe. The third headstone honors Michael Scott, dated 1823, with a shaped top. The final headstone is for Anthony Johnson of Plaintrees, dated 1854, which has a shaped top featuring a figure with a nimbus opening a book.
