Description
The Widdrington War Memorial is a 5-meter tall structure located in the churchyard on the north side of the Church of the Holy Trinity, which is a Grade I-listed building. The memorial features a rough-hewn granite cross with a wheel-head designed in the Celtic style. The cross shaft rises from a tapering plinth, which is set on a stone base that resembles a natural stony outcrop.
At the base of the cross shaft, there is a small panel inscribed with the words "THEIR NAME/ LIVETH/ FOR/ EVERMORE." On the front face of the plinth, the main dedicatory inscription reads "WIDDRINGTON MEMORIAL/ SACRED/ TO THE MEMORY OF/ THE MEN FROM THIS DISTRICT/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1919." The names of those commemorated are listed on either side of the plinth in applied metal lettering.
