Description
Shotley Hall Stable Block, likely built in 1863 by Thomas Wilson, is a stable building constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features Welsh slate roofs with some leadwork. The building is designed in an L-plan.
The two-storey range faces the entrance and is divided into two sections, each with three narrow bays. The left section includes two carriage doors with four-centred arches, a loading door above, and a large corbelled-out bargeboarded gable that has a round pitching eye with three slits below. To the right of this section are two small windows with shouldered lintels. The right section features a recessed boarded door on the right, a centre two-light sash window, and an external stair on the left leading to a door that has two sets of paired sash windows to its right. The left part has a Gothic lead spirelet above an ornamental wood ridge vent, while the right part has ridge stacks.
There is also a one-storey right section with seven irregular bays. In the third bay, there is a projecting cross-gabled carriage entrance with a four-centred arch. Plain windows are located on either side, with two modern garage doors on the right. Behind the arch, there is a dovecote topped with a shingled spire and vane, along with four conical lead vents on the ridge.
A wall on the left side of the yard features a left-of-centre shouldered arch.
