Description
St Cuthbert's Vicarage is a vicarage built around 1850, attributed to architect John Dobson. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings, a plinth, and quoins, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring stone gable copings. The building is designed in a 17th-century style and consists of two storeys with three bays, along with a left-side one-storey, one-bay extension.
The central gabled porch has a chamfered lancet beneath a low-pitched gable, which is adorned with a fleur-de-lys finial and moulded kneelers. The Tudor-arched door on the left side of the porch features four vertical panels over four in a stop-chamfered surround, accompanied by a panelled wood screen and a corniced wood hood. The outer bays have two-light windows, while there is a single light window to the left of the porch and a three-light window at the center of the first floor. All windows have plain sashes within hollow-chamfered surrounds and stone mullions. The first-floor windows in the outer bays are slightly raised above the eaves and are set beneath steeply-gabled dormers that match the style of the porch.
The roof is steeply pitched with flat copings on moulded kneelers, and there are panelled end chimneys featuring plinths and cornices on slightly projecting stacks. The vicarage is included for its group value.
