Description
The walled garden located approximately 60 yards east of Ford Castle dates from the mid-19th century and was built for the Marchioness of Waterford. It is constructed from snecked stone lined with brick in English Garden Wall Bond. The south wall is about 150 yards long and features three doorways. The central doorway is broad and flanked by buttresses, topped with a segmental arch that has a roll-moulded hoodmould and a stepped parapet displaying a carved panel of joined hands. This doorway includes a panelled two-leaf door with a roll-moulded surround.
The other two doorways are boarded and feature Tudor-arched surrounds. The coping along the ridged top is roll-moulded, and the lower part of the south wall, along with the buttresses, has overlapping coping. There is a similar doorway with a stepped top.
