Description
There are two gravestones located approximately 5 yards north-west of the Church of St. Michael. The gravestones date from 1911 and commemorate Hastings Neville, who was the vicar of Ford, and from 1895 for his wife, Elizabeth Sophie Neville. Both gravestones are made of sandstone. Hastings Neville's gravestone features a cross with an octagonal shaft and an elaborate enriched top, set on a base of four square steps. Elizabeth Sophie Neville's gravestone is designed as a medieval cross slab, adorned with a foliated cross, lettering around the edge, and a roll-moulded edge, all of which are extremely well cut. Hastings Neville was also the author of two books about Ford, titled "A Corner of The North" and "Under a Border Tower."
