Description
Lorbottle Hall is a house built in 1790, constructed from ashlar stone with a graduated Lakeland slate roof. It has two storeys and features a five by five bay layout, with a service wing at the rear. The entrance is marked by four steps leading up to a central Venetian doorway set within an arched recess. Above this doorway is a Venetian window with intersecting glazing bars, while the other windows are 12-pane sashes. The building has sill bands on both the ground and first floors, along with a broader band between the two levels. A pediment crowns the central bay, and the hipped roof is topped with corniced ridge stacks.
Inside, the hall boasts an open-well staircase with a wrought-iron balustrade, six-panelled doors, and shutters. The interior is enhanced by fine late 18th-century cornices and ceiling roses, as well as several late 18th-century fireplaces featuring carved friezes and Corinthian columns.
