Description

The Dixon and Hume headstones, dating from 1761 and 1774, are located 8 metres north-east of the south-west corner of the churchyard. These headstones are made of sandstone and consist of two adjacent slabs with shaped segmental tops. The northern headstone features an inscription dedicated to Robert Dixon, who died in 1761, along with a verse that reads:

"Confide not reader in thy youth or strength
But more than both thy present moment prize.
Graves here surround the(e) of each brea(d)th and length
And thou mayst be perhaps the next to die."

The reverse side of this stone displays a relief of a skull and crossed bones, along with the phrase 'memento mori'. The southern headstone has a shaped panel with an open book and is inscribed to Robert Hume, who died in 1774.
