Description

This is a headstone dating from 1840, made of sandstone. It is located 13 metres north of the vestry door of the Church of St. Cuthbert. The inscription states, "This stone was erected by the Bedlington Iron Company in commemoration of the long and faithful service of Thomas Southern," who was employed for "upwards of 42 years." The headstone is included for its social historical interest.
