Description
The Potts and Wilson tombs, located 4 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St. Cuthbert, date from the 18th century and are made of sandstone. The site features two headstones, a box tomb, and a table tomb. One headstone has a shaped top and marks the burial place of the children of Matth and Jane Potts of Netherton, who lived from 1745 to 1752. It includes a relief carving of a cherub holding an arrow and trumpet, surrounded by drapery, scroll-like foliage, and flowers. The second headstone commemorates Robert Wilson of Bedlington, who died in 1777. The box tomb is supported by square moulded urn legs and indicates the burial place of the children of Robert and Elizabeth Potts of Bedlington, dating from 1740. The table tomb features a gadrooned edge and six circular moulded legs with square capitals, inscribed to George Potts of Netherton, who passed away in 1797, along with family details.
