Description
East House is a house built around 1810 to 1815. It is rendered with ashlar dressings and has a Welsh slate roof, designed in an L-plan. The house is two storeys high and has three bays, featuring rusticated quoins. The central entrance has a flush-panel door within a doorcase that includes an architrave, pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a modillion cornice, along with a decorative patterned overlight. The windows are 12-pane sashes set in raised stone surrounds, and there is a first-floor band and a finely-moulded cornice. The roof is concave and hipped, with 20th-century stone stacks on the returns.
The left side of the house has four bays with similar detailing. At the rear, there is an apsidal stair projection in the re-entrant angle, which features a curved 12-pane sash window.
Inside, the house has a stone geometric staircase with an elegantly curved soffit, stick balusters, and slender turned newels. The interior also includes panelled reveals, dado rails, six-panel doors, two marble fireplaces, and cornices, all adorned with finely-fluted mouldings, paterae, and rosettes.
