Description
The farmbuilding group located north-west of Northfield Farmhouse consists of a barn, a gingang, and a shelter shed/granary. The shelter shed/granary dates from around 1800, the barn is from the early 19th century, and the gingang was built in the mid-19th century. The shelter shed/granary is constructed from rubble with tooled dressings, while the barn is made of squared rubble with tooled-and-margined dressings, and the gingang features rock-faced stone. All buildings have Welsh slate roofs and are arranged in an L-plan, with the cartshed/granary on the north side of the yard and the barn, with the gingang at the rear on the west.
The elevations facing the yard show that the main two-storey part of the shelter shed/granary has a five-bay segmental arcade with three part-slatted windows above. The single-storey section on the right end has two doorways, one of which is blocked, and a hip-ended roof. The barn features a stable door and three slit vents.
On the rear elevations, the shelter shed/granary has two stable doors, a boarded door, and two windows, while the single-storey end part includes a boarded door and three slit vents. The barn displays stable doors in alternating-block surrounds on either side of the gingang, which has five square piers and a conical roof.
Inside the gingang, the roof has radial ties connected to a metal plate at the base of an octagonal central post, supported by two levels of curving purlins. An attached 20th-century covered yard is not of interest.
