Description
This is a road bridge located 25 metres south-west of Glenwhelt, dating from the late 18th century. The bridge is constructed of dressed sandstone and features two segmental arches with set-back voussoirs beneath flush arch bands. It has a wide arch over the river and a narrower flood arch. On the upstream side, there is a triangular-plan cutwater with a sloping top situated between the arches, and the projecting parapet, which is rendered on the outer face, has splayed ends. The downstream face has been altered, with the roadway widened and supported on a concrete cantilever, while the cutwater has been rebuilt and the parapet has been destroyed. The bridge was widened on the downstream side around 1970.
