Description

A pair of houses dating from the early 19th century, and possibly incorporating earlier fabric, is located in Broomhaugh and Riding. The walls are of rubble construction with tooled and margined quoins and dressings. The roof is slate-covered, with a rebuilt stack on a stone base, constructed of pale orange brick. The houses are two storeys high and have an irregular four-bay facade. The front doors, which are vertically-panelled, are situated in bays one and three; the door in bay one has a three-pane overlight. A small 20th-century casement window is positioned to the right of the door in bay three, and the remaining windows are replacements, except for the tripartite sash window on the ground floor of bay four, which is likely 20th century. These windows are 12-pane sashes with slightly projecting sills. The gables are coped, and there is a reduced ridge stack, along with a rebuilt end stack. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
