Description

The dovecote located approximately 50 yards south of Armstrong House is a medieval structure. It is built of random rubble and has a round, tapering shape with a domed top, resembling a beehive, and stands about 20 feet high. The dovecote is slightly stepped in four stages, with projecting stones creating continuous ledges at each level. There is a low doorway on the east side and three small windows on the south side. Originally, there was an entry for the pigeons at the top of the dome. The interior is completely lined with stone nesting boxes. This structure is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
