Description
The Smithy and cartsheds, located east of the farm buildings at Doxford Farm, date back to 1825 and were originally part of a planned farmbuilding complex. The structure is made of rubble with horizontally-tooled quoins and dressings, topped with a 20th-century asbestos roof. The layout indicates that it was once the east range of the main farmbuilding group, which has since been altered by the demolition of the north-east corner.
On the east side, the smithy is positioned at the right end, featuring a boarded door and window, along with a hipped roof that includes a banded smithy stack. The west side, which faces inward, showcases a four-bay segmental arcade. Inside, the smithy retains its original hearth and bellows. This building is included for its group value with the other farm structures.
