Description
West Fenwick Farmhouse, originally a bastlehouse and now a farmhouse, dates from the late 16th or early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of random rubble with ashlar dressings and has a Welsh slate roof. It is two and a half storeys high, with two slightly irregular bays and a central doorway. The doorway has a 20th-century door in a chamfered surround. There are 2-light mullioned windows with chamfered surrounds and 8-pane sashes in each light. C19 gabled half-dormers are visible, along with small, blocked windows located between the first-floor windows. The roof is gabled, with ridged coping, kneelers, and corniced end stacks featuring four conjoined shafts.
A former byre is attached to the left side of the farmhouse, now forming an archway to the rear. Within this archway is a single-storey, 18th-century brick addition to the main house.
The interior features walls that are 45 to 50 inches thick, along with a 19th-century staircase.
