Description
Boatacres is a mid-19th century ferryman's cottage located in Acomb. The building is constructed from rough-faced stone with rock-faced dressings and features a Welsh slate roof. It has one storey plus attics and consists of two bays. The cottage is adorned with 12-pane sash windows set in raised alternating-block surrounds, and it has a central raking dormer that also contains a 12-pane Yorkshire sash window. The roof is very steeply pitched and includes stepped-and-banded end stacks. On the right side, there is a boarded door and a 6-pane casement window beneath a timber lintel, along with a 6-pane attic casement window in a raised stone surround. The interior has not been seen but may feature cruck roof trusses. This Victorian cottage is designed in a deliberate vernacular style for a picturesque effect.
