Description
Causey Park House is a house located in Tritlington, with the east part of the main block incorporating a tower house built in 1589 for James Ogle. The building was extended and remodeled in the later 18th century and restored in 1870. It is constructed of stone, mostly rendered, and features slate roofs.
The south front has two storeys and seven bays, which are slightly irregular. There is a Tuscan porch in the fourth bay, with half-glazed double doors set in an architrave beneath a pulvinated frieze. The windows are 12-pane sash types in moulded boxes, with those on the first floor in chamfered surrounds, except for 20th-century windows on the ground floor to the right. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers, and there are brick end stacks, with the right stack sitting on an old stone base.
On the right return, there is a 16th-century heraldic panel that is now badly eroded. The left side features a projecting gable end of a crosswing, which was rebuilt in the 20th century with new windows. An old carved stone showing a shield in a cusped quatrefoil has been re-set here, similar to the Smithy at The Demesne in Tritlington. The rear elevation displays a Venetian stair window with Gothick glazing bars, set in a raised stone surround with a keystone. Inside, the walls in the 16th-century part are 1.2 meters thick, although much of the interior has been altered.
