Description

Heckley High House is a farmhouse built around 1810, which includes parts from the 18th century in its west range and adjacent outbuilding. The main block is constructed from squared tooled stone, featuring tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings. The 18th-century sections are made of rubble with roughly-squared quoins. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, and the right end and west range stacks have been rebuilt in brick on their original bases.

The main block is two storeys high and has three symmetrical bays. The central entrance has a renewed door beneath a radial fanlight set in a keyed round arch, flanked by 24-pane sash windows. The first floor features 16-pane sash windows. The gables are coped, and there is a stepped-and-corniced stack at the left end. To the left, the lower two-storey west range has a renewed door with a 16-pane sash window to the left and two shortened 12-pane sash windows above. This range also has a coped left gable and an end stack. There is a single-storey outbuilding on the far left, which includes a 16-pane sash window and a coped left gable. The rear elevation displays a round-headed stair window with a later 4-pane sash above a porch that has a blocked door on the left return.

Inside, there is a staircase featuring stick balusters and a moulded handrail.
