Description

This is a pair of headstones located approximately 8 yards west of the Church of St. Bartholomew in Whittingham Village. The left headstone commemorates Thomas Patterson and dates from 1768. It is made of sandstone and stands about 3 feet high, featuring a scrolled pedimented top and a primitive carving of an angel along with a skull and crossbones on the reverse side. The right headstone has a worn inscription and is from the early to mid-18th century. It is a smaller sandstone tablet with a high arched top, displaying a high relief carving of tools and a memento mori.
