Description
This is a pant located on the north side of the road to the lifeboat station in Alnmouth, dating from the later 19th century. It is constructed from snecked rock-faced stone, featuring ashlar seats and a polished Shap Granite bowl. The rectangular pant has a projecting oval moulded bowl situated below a shoulder-headed recess, which includes a bronze plate inscribed 'IN MEMORY OF WILLIAM DENTON' and a cast-iron panel with a knob and a lion-mask spout, made by T. Kennedy of Kilmarnock. At the base, there is a low arched opening with a grate. The top of the pant is gabled, made of interlocking slabs with moulded edges. The quadrant wing walls have stepped-down gabled coping and seats with a moulded front edge, enclosing a semicircular paved area.
