Description
The garden walls and piers located to the south-east of Nunriding Hall date from the late 17th century or early 18th century. They are constructed from rubble, incorporating many squared blocks that have been reused from an older building, and feature dressed stone piers. The garden is rectangular in shape, with tall walls on the north and east sides that have shallow gabled coping. The lower wall on the south side ramps up at the east end. The low wall on the west side has almost flat coping and supports 12 squared stone piers topped with moulded pyramidal caps; the spaces between these piers have been replaced by a wooden fence, and there is a later gateway near the south end. A doorway near the west end of the north wall features a flat triangular arch within a square frame, while a doorway at the north end of the east wall is flanked externally by buttresses, which are now in a ruinous state.
