Description
Hexham Primary Infants and Junior School is a Gothic-style building located at the northern end of the Sele, constructed in 1856 and later, funded by public subscription. It is a single-storey structure built from rubble. The west pavilion features a window arrangement of 2 + 2 + 2, with a recessed centre flanked by projecting gabled bays. To the east, there is a horizontal annexe with one window. The windows are transomed, and the gables have three light, four-centred arch-headed windows with tracery panels above. The building has a high-pitched roof, with a central pavilion running north-south. The southern gables are adorned with pierced bargeboards and four pointed decorated tracery windows, separated by buttresses and topped with curved triangular vents. The west side includes a window arrangement of 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 2, featuring three gables with slight pierced bargeboards and pointed tracery windows, while other windows consist of three lights. A doorway is located in the north gable, and the east side is similar in design. There is a later range to the east consisting of two blocks, separated at an oblique angle by a polygonal linking pavilion topped with a bell turret.
