Description
East Matfen Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse constructed of ashlar stone, featuring a Welsh slate roof and old brick chimneys. The building stands two storeys high and has three bays, with a lower two-bay wing set back to the right. The central door is from the 20th century and is set within a wooden trellis porch. The right window on the ground floor is a four-pane casement, while the other windows are twelve-pane sashes. The roof is steeply pitched and gabled, adorned with 18th-century kneelers and corniced end stacks.
At the rear, there is a continuous outshut that includes 20th-century dormers and small-paned casements. The 18th-century garden walls surrounding the property are approximately three feet high, built with large blocks of dressed stone, featuring chamfered coping and taller arched gatepiers. The corners of the wall are rounded.
