Description
The road bridge and footbridge, located 320 metres southeast of Howick Hall, likely date from the early 19th century. They are constructed from tooled ashlar, with cast-iron railings on the footbridge. The road bridge spans the Howick Burn and features a segmental arch, along with a smaller flood arch on the south side. Below the parapet, there is a square band with a moulded plinth and coping, divided into 17 bays by shallow pilasters. At the south end, the parapets terminate in taller rectangular piers topped with low pyramidal caps. At the north end, the parapets rise to connect with the footbridge, which has a chamfered segmental arch and a band beneath an arched dwarf wall that supports the railing. The footbridge also has square-section standards with multi-moulded finials and bars topped with moulded circular elements.
