Description

The Dairy Shop, located on the north side of Haltwhistle Main Street, is a shop dating from the early 19th century, which incorporates masonry from possibly the late 16th to early 17th century on its left return. The building features painted, rendered masonry, with the main block topped by a graduated stone-flagged roof and a rendered chimney stack. The left link section, situated above a passageway, has a Welsh slate roof.

The main block is two stories high with two bays and includes a wide 20th-century shop front. Above this, there are two 16-pane sash windows set in raised surrounds. The roof is steeply pitched, and there is a tall chimney stack on the left end that rises halfway up the front span, with a later stack located at the rear. The one-bay link section is supported by wany transverse beams of heavy scantling and features a 20th-century casement window and a steeply-pitched roof. At the rear of the main block, there is a late 19th-century outshut with scattered sashes. The building is included for its group value.
