Description
The dovecote located to the east of Heckley Fence Farmhouse, along with its attached wall, dates from the late 18th century. The dovecote is constructed of rubble with tooled quoins and dressings, topped by a Welsh slate roof. The wall is made of squared stone with some brick courses, resting on a rubble base. The dovecote is square in shape and is connected by the wall to the farmhouse on the west.
On the north elevation, the dovecote features a band at mid-height, which is interrupted by a boarded loft door set in a pointed arch. There is a similar lower door with a slatted tympanum. Above the doors, there is a blind quatrefoil. The dovecote is capped with a pyramidal roof. The returns display similar blind quatrefoils above the band, while the rear elevation has an open quatrefoil and a tall flat-coped wall on the left.
The farmhouse and outbuilding located at the rear of the wall have been altered and are not considered to be of special interest.
