Description

MIDDLESBROUGH LINTHORPE ROAD, NZ 4920 NW east side. 7/45 Nos. 36 to 42 even G.V. II Terrace of 4 shops and offices, 1889 by R. Lofthouse (Middlesbrough). Brick faced with sandstone ashlar. Lakeland slate roofs and cladding on sides of middle 2 dormers. Welsh slate on rear pitch. Northern Renaissance style. 3 storeys with attics, 12 bays. 4 mid/late C20 ground-floor shop fronts. Applied orders, Composite, with richly carved pilasters, capitals and frieze, on first floor; Roman Doric, with partly-fluted pilasters and frieze ornamented with fluting and flowers, on 2nd floor. Moulded transomed windows; cross windows in wider 2nd and 11th bays. enriched panelled parapet, with acorn finials and 4 enriched shaped-gabled dormers, with similar windows, in Roman Doric surrounds. Rear extensions not of special interest.
