Description
The Memorial Clock in Albert Park, dating from around 1900, is made of cast iron. It features a column with four engaged shafts and shaft rings, a common moulded base, and an enriched foliate capital that supports a cornice and pedestal. The die has clock faces set in moulded surrounds with enriched spandrels. There is ornate cresting between bud finials at the corners of the pedestal. The shallow hipped roof has a flat top, a scrolled balustrade, and ball-and-spike finials at the corners, along with crocketed segmental trusses that form an open crown cover topped with a similar finial. A bell is suspended from the crown. The clock stands on a deep tapered and chamfered-stepped octagonal plinth adorned with ornamental panels. It was presented to the people of Middlesbrough by Thomas Sanderson, Justice of the Peace.
