Description
No. 50 High Street is a house, now used as a farm store, dating from the late 18th century, with possibly an earlier core. The building is constructed from random limestone rubble, with coursed rubble on the right-hand side of the first floor and quoins at the corners. It features a clay pantile roof with a stone ridge, gable copings, and a single brick ridge stack. The structure is two storeys tall, with living accommodation limited to the right-hand side, which was added in the mid to late 19th century.
There is a doorway with a stone lintel to the right, and to the left of the doorway, there is one altered window with a stone lintel and sill on each floor. Further left, there are two small boarded window openings on the ground floor and three symmetrically spaced window openings on the first floor, all with stone lintels. The left gable end has been rebuilt. The roof features very heavy coupled principals with a yoke and ridge piece, low queen posts, and two levels of stout butt purlins.
At the south end of the building, there is a single-storey rear wing that is of similar date to the main structure. However, the rear extension and the brick barn beyond are not of interest. The property was disused and in a dilapidated state at the time of the survey.
