Description
The Church of St James is a Grade II listed building, constructed in 1876. It is a cruciform church featuring an aisleless nave. The exterior is made of neatly coursed rubble masonry with ashlar dressings and has high-pitched slated roofs. The design reflects an early 14th-century style, characterized by geometrical tracery and stepped buttresses. The apsidal chancel has simple wide lancet windows, which are slightly older than the rest of the church, and a half-octagonal ended roof. Inside, the nave is a simple three-bay structure with a barrel roof and a high chancel arch, creating a plain yet dignified interior. There is some notable stained glass in the nave and on the north side of the chancel. Additionally, there is a small southeast porch that includes a newel stair, although its turret is missing.
