Description

Red Barns is a substantial, mid-to-late 18th century house, originally T-shaped, which has been altered and is now divided into flats. The main south elevation is two storeys and an attic, featuring five windows and a parapet constructed of pinkish brick. It has a fairly high-pitched slated roof with stone gable copings and end chimneys. Attic windows are present in the gable ends, along with a skylight and one small dormer window. The replaced sash windows have gauged, near-flat brick arches. The central doorway has been altered. Additions have been made to the building between the leg and the head of the T-shape. A 19th century doorway, designed in a 13th century style, has been inserted into the west side, and several modern doors and windows are located at the rear. Part of a rear wing has been roughly rendered.
