Description
The Comet Public House is a public house built in the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed partly of brick and partly of red sandstone rubble, featuring incised render on the front and sides. It has a Welsh slate roof with rendered brick chimney stacks. The structure is two storeys high and consists of five bays. There are two Tuscan porches flanking the central bay, which contains 9-panel doors and overlights behind the porches. The central bay also features an early 20th-century square-plan bay window with three lights, wood mullions, a transom, frieze, and cornice. The end bays and first floor have replaced two-pane sash windows, which are set beneath stucco wedge lintels and have projecting sills. The roof displays rendered raised verges and has transverse end and ridge stacks. There are late 19th-century and early 20th-century brick additions at the rear, which are not considered of special interest.
